The role of the Plant Manager:
The Chemical Plant Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the Poly-Ethylene manufacturing plant, ensuring the efficient and safe production of chemical products. This role includes managing plant personnel, optimizing production processes, maintaining compliance with safety and environmental regulations, and achieving production goals.
As the Plant Manager, you will be responsible for the following:

Operations Management

  • Manage day-to-day operations of the plant to ensure smooth functioning.
  • Coordinate maintenance activities to minimize downtime and keep equipment in good working condition.
  • Ensure products meet quality standards through effective monitoring and evaluation processes.

Compliance and Safety

  • Enforce company policies and procedures to maintain a compliant and safe working environment.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and standards governing plant operations.
  • Conduct regular safety audits and inspections to identify and mitigate potential hazards.

Production Planning and Optimization

  • Develop and implement production plans and schedules to meet inventory targets.
  • Optimize production processes to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and increase output.
  • Monitor and analyze production data to identify areas for improvement.

Personnel Management

  • Lead, coach, and develop plant staff to build a high-performing team.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and provide feedback and training to employees.
  • Ensure adequate staffing levels to meet production requirements.

Maintenance and Reliability

  • Oversee the maintenance of plant equipment and facilities to ensure reliable and efficient operations.
  • Develop and implement preventive maintenance programs to reduce downtime and extend equipment life.
  • Coordinate with maintenance staff to address equipment issues promptly.

Environmental Responsibility

  • Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and standards.
  • Implement programs to minimize waste and reduce the plant’s environmental impact.
  • Monitor and report on environmental performance metrics.

Budget and Cost Management

  • Develop and manage the plant budget, including production costs, labor costs, and capital expenditures.
  • Monitor and control expenses to stay within budgetary limits.
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities and implement cost reduction initiatives.

Communication

  • Communicate effectively with senior management, employees, and suppliers.
  • Prepare and present reports on plant performance, production status, and improvement initiatives.

Qualifications for the role:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Operations Management, or a related field.
  • Proven experience 7+ years in a management role within a manufacturing environment.
  • In-depth knowledge of regulatory requirements for operating a plant.
  • Strong understanding of business and management principles, including budgeting, strategic planning, resource allocation, and human resources.
  • Proficiency in manufacturing operations, project planning, cost control, and program management.
  • Familiarity with safely and efficiently operating manufacturing equipment.
  • Exceptional organizational and time-management skills.
  • Strong leadership and managerial attributes.
  • Proficient with software applications and computer technology.
