Team Overview
The Sr Staff Electrical Engineer is a member of the Advanced Development Organization, responsible for electrical solutions for the next generation lidar sensor solutions. The candidate will be on-site and responsible for designing state-of-the-art circuits, testing, and system integration. In this role, you will be responsible for electrical systems ideation, design, implementation, modeling, and support volume ramp-up.
Responsibilities
- Circuit design and analysis
- Low noise analog, RF Mixed-Signal circuit design
- Optoelectronic circuit design
- Simulation tools (LTSpice etc)
- Signal integrity design and test
- Strongly skilled in Electrical System Architecture design
- Participate in engineering design through all phases of the process: designing, developing, testing, and ensuring performance over life of the system
- Prototyping
- System integration (photonics or electronics lab setting)
- Manual system build - pcbs, circuit prototypes, solder rework
- Lab testing w/oscilloscopes, power supplies, and other equipment in standard electronics lab
- Skilled in troubleshooting and debug
- PCB design
- Altium schematic library creation & management, schematic entry, and review
- Layout entry, review and order
- A successful candidate needs to be able to drive design and implement schematics and layouts to completion independently and within the larger team. Also, the candidate is expected to be hands-on, capable and be able to support testing in a lab setting.
- A working knowledge of cost estimating, code review, field investigation, report and memo writing and other similar electrical engineering related tasks.
Minimum Qualifications
- 7+ years of experience in designing a variety of PC boards, including but not limited to opto-electronics and photonics applications
- 5+ years of experience in designing, simulating, taping out, and testing integrated circuits
- Experience interfacing with other engineering disciplines including optics, opto-mechanics, firmware, mechanical, or software
- Experience working closely with the ASIC and FPGA programming team to provide full functionality to the circuit design
- Experience following rigorous design control methodology from design specification through design transfer to manufacturing
Preferred Qualifications
- MS with 10+ years of experience or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering with 8+ years of industry experience
- 10+ years of experience in the Semiconductor industry experience in Analog/Mixed-signal IC design
- Solid fundamentals of CMOS device characteristics, noise, mismatch, linearity, and design trade-offs
- Experience designing complex blocks, control-loop circuits used in power-delivery, high-speed interface circuits,
- Knowledge of fabrication process variables, constraints, and limitations
- Knowledge of emerging applications in photonics, including beam steering, light detection and ranging, photonics
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Strong technical communication skills

At Luminar, your base pay is one part of your total compensation package. This role pays a base between $152,000 and $182,000* per year. Within this range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. You will also be eligible to receive other benefits including: equity in the form of restricted stock unit awards, comprehensive medical and dental coverage, 401k plan, life and disability benefits, flexible time off, paid parental leave, and tuition reimbursement for formal education related to advancing your career at Luminar. The specific programs and options available to an employee may vary depending on date of hire and schedule type.
