Team Overview
We are seeking a Lidar System Engineer for our System Engineering organization. This individual will use their broad technical knowledge and experience, as well as ability to coordinate cross-functionally to develop requirements for sophisticated automotive lidar systems.
Responsibilities
- Take ownership in lidar platform requirement creation for various features and performance metrics
- Write system requirements from decomposing various stakeholders’ requests (customer, perception SW team, etc.).
- Work closely with other system engineers and a diverse cross-functional team to drive a well-rounded, physics-based requirement development effort.
- Provide support to the system test team on requirement compliance, verification criteria, test methods
- Leverage existing technical expertise within the company, but also willing to deep dive as needed
- Balance contributions to requirements, design failure analysis, and test definition among other system deliverables
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree or higher in STEM field
- Minimum of 8+ years of experience in HW design, verification or characterization
- Strong background in product development, preferably in developing lidar, electro-optical, imaging products
- Experience with systems engineering for complex products
- Experience with requirement management tools such as Jama, DOORs, or equivalent
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with radiometric modeling, system calibration, and/or design for manufacturability
- System engineering mindset with grounded hardware experience
- Experience in the AV industry

At Luminar, your base pay is one part of your total compensation package. This role pays a base between $100,000 and $200,000 per year. Within this range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. You will also be eligible to receive other benefits including: equity in the form of restricted stock unit awards, comprehensive medical and dental coverage, 401k plan, life and disability benefits, flexible time off, paid parental leave, and tuition reimbursement for formal education related to advancing your career at Luminar. The specific programs and options available to an employee may vary depending on date of hire and schedule type.
