DevOps Manager
AssetWatch
AssetWatch serves global manufacturers by powering manufacturing uptime through the delivery of an unparalleled condition monitoring experience, with a passion to care about the assets our customers care for every day. We are a devoted and capable team that includes world-renowned engineers and distinguished business leaders united by a common goal – To build the future of predictive maintenance. As we enter the next phase of rapid growth, we are seeking people to help lead the journey.
AssetWatch is seeking an experienced hands-on DevOps Manager to lead the evolution of our infrastructure and culture as we scale our AWS-based platform. This role blends strategic leadership, coaching, and technical execution and is critical to moving our DevOps organization from reactive support to proactive ownership.
You’ll lead a team responsible for reliability, scalability, automation, and security across a modern, event-driven stack. Beyond technical execution, your mission is to build a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement that accelerates delivery and strengthens trust between DevOps, Engineering, and Product.
Key Responsibilities
Team Leadership & Culture
- Lead, coach, and develop a team of DevOps and SRE engineers through clear expectations, accountability, and mentorship.
- Drive a proactive, ownership-driven mindset — transforming the team from reactive operators to strategic enablers.
- Build strong relationships with Engineering, QA, and Product to ensure DevOps is involved early (“shift left”) in system design.
- Establish and enforce best practices around IaC, CI/CD, observability, and security.
- Create and manage expectations of roadmap for scaling infrastructure, increasing automation, and reducing toil.
- Drive alignment with company priorities through data-driven metrics (uptime, deployment frequency, recovery time, etc.).
- Conduct 1:1s, performance reviews, and career development conversations that balance empathy with accountability.
- Participate in hiring and onboarding as the team grows.
Hands-On Technical Execution
- Guide infrastructure architecture and implementation across AWS (Lambda, ECS, DynamoDB, Timestream, S3, CloudFront, CloudWatch, CloudFormation, etc.).
- Contribute to Terraform and CI/CD pipelines (Bitbucket, CodeMagic, Flyway, AWS CodePipeline) as needed.
- Improve observability and incident management through tooling like Site24x7, Sentry, Splunk, Jira, and CloudTrail.
- Partner with Security to maintain robust IAM, secrets management, and compliance (Wiz, SOC 2, GuardDuty, Okta).
- Optimize cloud costs.
- Participate in incident response, root cause analysis, and postmortems to drive continuous learning.
- Evaluate and implement new technologies that simplify and scale infrastructure.
Core Technical Focus Areas
- Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Terraform and AWS CloudFormation
- CI/CD Pipelines: Bitbucket Pipelines, GitHub Actions, AWS CodePipeline, Flyway
- AWS Services: Lambda, ECS, DynamoDB, Timestream, S3, CloudFront, VPC, IAM
- Observability: AWS CloudWatch, Site24x7, Sentry, Splunk
- Security & Compliance: SOC 2 readiness, IAM best practices, vulnerability scanning (Wiz, AWS Security Hub)
- Automation: Python, Bash scripting
- Cost Optimization: Cloud cost management, efficiency monitoring
Qualifications
- 7+ years in DevOps, SRE, or Infrastructure Engineering roles.
- 3+ years in leadership or team management roles with direct reports.
- Proven experience managing and scaling AWS infrastructure at high-growth SaaS or IoT companies.
- Deep understanding of CI/CD automation, IaC, and observability practices.
- Strong experience implementing security and compliance in cloud environments.
- Skilled communicator who can translate between technical depth and business context.
- Demonstrated ability to coach and elevate teams — not just manage tasks.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certifications: AWS Solutions Architect or DevOps Engineer Professional.
- Experience with serverless and event-driven architecture.
- Exposure to data or ML infrastructure (SageMaker, Bedrock).
- Experience with IoT systems or integrations (CMMS, EAM, etc.)
- Familiarity with cost optimization strategies.
What Success Looks Like
- The DevOps team operates proactively — anticipating challenges and driving solutions, not reacting to tickets.
- CI/CD pipelines are fast, reliable, and automated.
- Infrastructure is observable, secure, and cost-efficient.
- Engineering sees DevOps as a strategic partner that accelerates delivery.
- The team culture is accountable, empowered, and continuously improving.
