The Role
AiDASH is looking for a Staff Database Architect (PostgreSQL / Aurora RDS) to drive performance, scalability, and reliability across our large-scale data ecosystem. This role is ideal for a seasoned database expert who thrives on solving complex performance challenges, optimizing data architecture for mission-critical applications, and guiding teams in best practices for scalable, cost-efficient data management on AWS.
As a key technical leader, you’ll ensure our PostgreSQL (Aurora RDS) environments are optimized to support AiDASH’s AI and satellite-driven solutions that safeguard critical infrastructure and enable global sustainability.
How you’ll make an impact:

Assess and monitor the health of a large-scale PostgreSQL (Aurora RDS) database (>50 TB)

Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks, including I/O, memory, and CPU-related issues

Identify and optimize database bottlenecks, long-running SQL queries, indexes, and schema design

Implement robust Guardrails for observability, monitoring, query control, and DB health
-
Design data retention and purging policies to reduce storage bloat

Consult with application teams on schema redesign and query optimization

Guide transition and offloading of analytical workloads to OLAP

Recommend cost-effective strategies to reduce AWS resource consumption

Collaborate with business analysts and developers to align DB performance with app functionality
What we’re looking for:

12+ years of experience in PostgreSQL database administration and architecture

Hands-on experience with Amazon Aurora and AWS cost/performance optimization
-
Proven Expertise in query tuning, indexing strategies, and storage management
-
Good understanding of geospatial queries, time-series data, and large-scale data processing
-
Familiarity with S3, Redshift, Snowflake, and Iceberg
-
Experience managing data-intensive platforms with complex reporting and analytics needs

Knowledge of observability tools, query logging, and alerting systems
